The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
When work went through a slight mouse problem they decided the best course of action was to set traps. A few coworkers/friends and I decided to give the mice a fighting chance. Little mouse sized warning signs were made and placed near the traps. A few mice managed to set off the traps and escape with the bait.

Eventually the same was done for the occasional bugs that wandered in. No proof yet on how that worked out.
